Strong Sea Life and the SeaWatcher APP land in Stintino

Strong Sea Life - Survey and TReatment ON Ghost nets - and the SeaWatcher App will be present at the next round of the "17th Italian Latin Sailing Championship", organized by the historic Circolo Nautico Torres which will take place in Stintino from 21st to 24th September.
Strong Sea and the SeaWatcher App are part of the large project created within the LIFE programme, the aim of which is the development of a community environmental policy, aimed at protecting nature.
The project study area includes the Gulf of Asinara and the North Western coast of Sardinia, where Strong Sea operates to protect and improve the conservation status of two highly valuable habitats, the Posidonia oceanica and the coral habitat, from the threat posed by abandoned fishing gear, which, in addition to continuing to fish, taking away fish resources, deteriorates the habitats on which they exist.
Our ISPRA researchers will be present during the entire event, telling, through direct and simple scientific dissemination, how the project was born, how it is developing and its important aims; we will also explain the use of the APP to report the presence of "ghost networks" and more.
We hope to be able to have maximum involvement of citizens, institutions, fishermen and boaters in order to be able to all together offer a contribution to the fight against marine pollution through the collection of data relating to marine waste, facilitating and protecting the protection of our sea .
The Circolo Nautico Torres has organized and will host a series of events, conferences, shows and activities related to maritime traditions.
“The Latin Sailing Regatta” was born in Stintino in 1983 to safeguard the local fleet of Latin sails, the last in Italy to have preserved the original characteristics of this type of armament dating back to the early Middle Ages.
