Have you spotted a missing fishing gear? Send us your report

Fishing gear lost at sea unnecessarily subtracts resources from biodiversity and fishing, pollutes and suffocates Posidonia oceanica and coral.
Thanks to the Strong Sea Life project, 3 kilometers of nets, dozens of pots and longlines have already been recovered from the depths of the Gulf of Asinara.
You too can help us protect the sea from these threats.

LIFE Strong Sea project presented in the 46th Session of the "Scientific Groups" of the International Maritime Organization (IMO)

During the 46th Session of the "Scientific Groups" of the 1972 London Convention and the 1996 Protocol of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) of the United Nations, held in Casablanca from 13 to 17 March 2023, the STRONG SEA LIFE and TReatment ON Ghost Nets) within the Agenda relating to the theme of marine litter and plastic. The LIFE project is aimed at the protection and conservation of the protected habitats of Posidonia oceanica and coralligenous meadows, threatened by lost and/or abandoned fishing gear (ALFDG).

Great participation for the event “Let's recover the nets lost at sea!

The meeting organized with local fishermen took place last Saturday 11 February 2023 in Castelsardo at the "Il Crustaceo" Business Network Conference Room who, thanks to their contribution, made it possible to recover fishing gear lost on the seabed. Let's recover the nets lost at sea!!

The Strong Sea project and its staff thank the fishermen for their contribution in reporting missing fishing gear.
We are happy to meet them on 11 February in Castelsardo to show, with the videos made during the identification and removal of the fishing gear they reported, how important their contribution has been to the protection of the marine environment.
It will be an opportunity to show everyone how together we can do a lot.

For this purpose ISPRA is organizing the conference entitled "STRONG Sea Life is tinged with Labronico" which will be held in Livorno on November 24, 2022 at the Panoramic room of the city's Aquarium.

On April 13, 2022, the presentation conference of the STRONG SEA project - Survey and TReatment ON Ghost LIFE, a project funded under the LIFE program, sector priority Nature and Biodiversity, on the funds established in the 2014-2020 programming.
ISPRA is the leader of the project, together with 5 associated partners: Forestry Corps Environmental Supervision, Asinara Park - Asinara Island AMP, AGRIS Sardinia Region, MCM Consorzio Coop Produzione Lavoro and Petra Patrimonia Corsica. The project, which started in December 2021, will last 5 years.
