LIFE Strong Sea project presented in the 46th Session of the "Scientific Groups" of the International Maritime Organization (IMO)

During the 46th Session of the "Scientific Groups" of the 1972 London Convention and the 1996 Protocol of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) of the United Nations, held in Casablanca from 13 to 17 March 2023, the STRONG SEA LIFE Project was presented (Survey and Treatment ON Ghost Nets) within the agenda relating to marine litter and plastic. The LIFE project is aimed at the protection and conservation of protected grassland habitats Oceanic Posidonia and coralline, threatened by lost and/or abandoned fishing gear (ALFDG).

The informative contribution on the Project (see attachments) received considerable appreciation from all the delegates of the participating countries, especially with regard to the theme of the recovery and inactivation of the ALFDG. ISPRA has therefore been invited to present the updates of the STRONG SEA LIFE project in the context of the next annual sessions and to collaborate with other global projects on the subject within the IMO framework.
